Gamma pt. 41
Jess walked into Omni-Gym and headed toward her kiosk catching a sight she wasn’t really prepared for. As she got behind her counter and began to set up, she sat down waiting for the next customer and turned slightly to her left. “Hey Kiki.”
Kiki: Hey Jess.
Jess: I don’t really care about you being behind the counter but Brie can get a little anal.
Kiki: Tell me about it.
Jess: Okay…we stop right there.
Kiki: but…
Jess: Right there.
Brie came walking out of her office toward the kiosk with a file folder in her hand. She handed the file to Kiki and began explaining it’s contents to her. “Okay Kiki, this sheet I need filled out before you leave today and the rest by the end of the week. They’re mostly things like your free membership card and insurance forms. I only really need your W4 today so I can have Karen put you into payroll.”
Kiki: Sounds good.
Brie: Good Jess you’re here. First off say hi to Dean’s replacement.
Jess: Hi Dean’s replacement.
Brie: Now I need to see you in the Office for a bit.
Jess: I hope it goes a bit better than last time.
Brie: Won’t know until you go in there.
Jess: Fine
Jess and Brie enter the office and shut the door. Jess took a seat in front of Brie’s desk while Brie assumed her own position at the ‘command center’ as their father, James would have called it. “Sis, I have some good news and some bad news.”
Jess: Great. What’s the bad news?
Brie: Well I’m increasing your contributions to the ‘credit card debt’.
Jess: What?!
Brie: Calm down.
Jess: Brie, you know how hard it was for me to swing my bills when I had Dean living with me. How the hell am I going to make it with more deductions from my check.
Brie: Would you like to hear the good news, Jumpy?
Jess: Sure
Brie: I’m making you a manager.
Jess: Huh?
Brie: Sure. You’ve been in that kiosk for years. You’re a hard worker. You generally show up on time, at least when you don’t totally blow off a shift.
Jess: I apologized for that.
Brie: And I think this will get you off your duff and make you get your act straight. Figure out what you want to do with your life. Along with your promotion, you’ll of course get a raise and a more flexible schedule.
Jess got up and circled the desk and gave Brie a huge hug. Forgetting her strength, Jess tugged a little too hard. “ugh…whoa sis” Jess jumped back instinctively remembering to lighten up. “Sorry.”
Brie: You’ve got the power you just need the size.
Jess: Don’t start that again.
Brie: Hey I was just happy when I found out you started. Let me see them again.
Jess: What…
Brie: C’mon…let me see your abs again.
Jess rolled her eyes as she slowly lifted her shirt. Her stomach slowly revealed each small little ripple in her belly only a moment after it was formed. Stopping just short of her bra, Jess began to flex them by bending into various positions. “Aww…My little sister is growing up. Maybe soon you’ll get boobs.” Jess chuckled, “Shut up…Bitch” The girls laughed as Brian knocked and then walked in.
Brie: Jesus, did I say to come in?
Brian: Sorry Miss Woods. Won’t happen again. Hey Jess. You told Brie?
Jess: Yes Brian…I told my sister that I have been doing a lot of sit ups because I want to be more like her.
Brian: Since When?
Brie: Since she has seen how well I run the gym, Mr. Webster.
Brian: Jess, would you excuse us. I have to address something with Miss Woods.
Jess: Sure thing B.
Jess left the office in a scuttled hurry and Brian shut the door behind her locking it. Taking the chair that Jess had most recently sat in, Brian leaned in and began to speak very firmly to Brie.
Brian: Look, we need to clear the air.
Brie: What is there to clear?
Brian: You’re letting your emotions get in the way of your managing. We’ve been friends for a long time. Even before I started working here. And I hate to see your position come between us.
Brie: What are you suggesting then?
Brian: After work, Meet me for dinner. We’ll have a chat. Get on some common ground.
Brie: You mean a date.
Brian: No. I mean two friends sitting down, clearing the air and having dinner. I’ll pick you up at 8.
Brie: Okay. But I pick the restaurant.
Brian: Fine with me.
Brian left Brie’s office and went back to work. Meanwhile back at the kiosk, Jess and Kiki were getting set up for Kiki’s first day of training. Talk naturally went to Jess’ Promotion and Kiki’s employment.
Kiki: Congrats on the promotion, Jess. I’m sure you earned it.
Jess: Not really. I mean yeah I guess I’m not an overall screw up.
Kiki: Give yourself some credit girl. I’ve only known you for a short time and you’ve got the plate spinning thing down.
Jess: Yeah right. It seems like I always have too many pots on the stove. And at least one of them Is always boiling over. And by the way. Multitasking is probably a word you should have used.
Kiki: Ah. But you see what I mean. You’ve got Dean on your mind as well as just being hit with a new promotion and you’re taking me under your wing.
Jess: I guess. Speaking of which. As a new manager I’m incorporating a new line of questioning into the training manual. Why do you want to work for Omni-Gym?
Kiki: I want to pay you back for everything you’ve done for me.
Jess: Okay, that was the on the surface, safe answer. Now how about telling me the truth?
Kiki: You guys were shorthanded so I figured I would pitch in, at least until you got on your feet.
Jess: Getting colder…
Kiki: I want to get to know you guys better…
Jess: A little warmer…
Kiki: Fine I want to see more of Brandon. How the hell did you know?
Jess: The Gamma thing. There’s an aura. Like when we were in Vegas, your mom…
Kiki: She wasn’t my mom. She was Eva.
Jess: Right…sorry. She lit up like a Christmas tree. Now Ivan was a little different.
Kiki: How so?
Jess: Well I could tell there was some thing about him, but it didn’t show up like it did with Eva. His was…I don’t know…like a scent.
Kiki: Weird. And you can ‘read’ these auras?
Jess: To an extent. I think it depends on how intimate I get with a person. When you ate me out the other day, your aura changed into something I could read a bit better. Like I was connecting to it. With Eva’s I just saw it.
Kiki: Plus you gave it to me.
Jess: That could have something to do with it also. And like with Brian’s…
Kiki: He’s been exposed too?
Jess: Sort of…the day after I drank the stuff, I pretty well raped him.
Kiki: What the fuck?
Jess: Well remember when I said right after the change I got…really horny. I snuck in the supply closet over there and lifted him in and went to town.
Kiki: And he’s your friend?
Jess: Yeah. I got lucky. All he says is, “You can’t rape the willing”
Kiki: Typical male response. But what the hell do I know. I’ve never been with a guy.
Jess: Really? You always knew you were a lesbian? So what’s up with Brandon.
Kiki: It’s kind of hard to explain. I mean it’s not that I so much chose ladies. Even though I do enjoy ladies, I never found a guy that was ‘worthy’
Jess: Worthy?
Kiki: Well I wasn’t always free to choose who I was with.
Jess: Point. I’m sorry Kiki. Why don’t we get into checking the weekly inventory and save this for another time…when you’re ready.
Kiki: Sounds good.
Jess and Kiki get into Kiki’s training until her first day is over. Jess finished up her shift, took a shower and changed into some clothes at the gym that she brought for her meeting with Sharise. Walking out of the gym, she noticed that Brie’s office door was closed, lights off and presumably locked for the evening. “Huh. That’s the first time I’ve seen her leave before me. Good. She needs a break” Jess thought to herself.
After a quick ride over to Break Time, Jess found Sharise sitting down and she went to join her. “Hey, sorry I had to make it a late evening”
Sharise: No biggie. All I have to do tomorrow is some lab stuff and study for mid terms.
Jess: Excellent. So you have some tips for me to get talking to Dean again.
Dean: What the fuck is this?!
Sharise: Yeah you could say that.
Dean: I don’t know what the hell this is. But I’m going home.
Sharise: Hey…sit down…please.
Dean: Why?
Sharise: Because I asked you to. Because you’re unhappy. And, most importantly, because you want to.
Sharise gets out of the booth and allows Dean to sit down. Expecting Sharise to sit back down, Dean moved to the far corner of the seat, however she was fooled.
Sharise: Well you guys have a lot to talk about. I’m going to go mingle.
Jess and Dean sat in silence. With the exception of the previous night, they had not seen each other in weeks. It was pure agony on both of them. Each of them made every effort to avoid eye contact. Dean finally broke the silence, “This is dumb. We need to be adult about this.”
Jess: I’ve been saying that for weeks.
Dean: Did you say it when you were fucking around on me?
Jess: Look…I’m sorry. That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you for a long time. Even when I was ‘fucking around on you.’
Dean: Maybe you should have just not done it.
Jess: In retrospect, probably a better idea.
Dean: I just want to know why, Jess. I mean why did it take a disguise for you to admit your feelings.
Jess: It wasn’t about that. I mean it started out with me not knowing how to tell you about my changes. Then we started hanging out and it got harder and harder to tell you about them along with what I was feeling, which was confusing the hell out of me.
Dean: What about me. I mean I’ve known for a long time that I had feelings for you. I was just always scared to say anything in case it got weird. And then…She…came along and it made me think that maybe you weren’t the one for me. Maybe I should at least try other options. And you know what? For awhile, I was happy. I was getting comfortable with myself. And I was getting comfortable with someone who wasn’t you…but it was you.
Jess: I know. Look, Dean. I can’t begin to realize how fucked I made our friendship. All I can do is apologize and try to make it right.
Dean: Well I forgive you Jess. I mean you obviously have had a lot on your plate, most of which we’ll get into later. But I’m going to have to work up to getting close to you again.
Jess: I understand. Hey…It’s a start. I’m starving. I haven’t eaten dinner yet.
Dean: Heh. Well I’ve eaten but you can. I don’t mind. I know you’re appetite definitely improved…about time.
Jess: Whatever. I noticed you learned how to curse since that night…about time.
The girls chuckled as Jess smiled and flagged down a waitress and ordered some dinner just as Sharise came back and the three enjoyed the rest of their evening, getting to know one another.
On the opposite side of the world, Eva was finishing her first training session to surprising results. Using a couple of ‘special’ dumbbells, Eva was curling 600 lbs. as she finished her set and the days training. Flexing her arms she felt her biceps rise just a bit bigger than the day before peaking at 14 inches.
Eva: I don’t believe it. How can I be rebuilding my muscles so fast.
Dai: Even normal people have what is called ‘muscle memory’. well your enhanced body had a more acute version of that.
Eva: So this is how I’m going to get my strength back.
Dai: Of course not.
Eva: Then why am I doing it?
Dai: Because the first time you were enhanced you were a weakling and you saw how much you benefited.
Eva: So with this new formula, I’ll be invincible!
Dai: No my child, with this new formula, you will be a goddess.
Eva grabbed a towel and dried her face and chest off as she headed for the shower, an evil grin upon her face as thoughts of revenge overtook her mind.
