Gamma pt. 24
Jess: WHAT THE FUCK?!?
Jess howled out as her and Brie left Eva’s house. “Please Jess. I don’t want to make too big of a deal out of this.” Jess stared straight on, fuming then turned to look at Brie. “Rape is a big deal whether it happened or not.” Brie got a blank stare on her face and looked toward Jess. “You don’t think I actually did it do you?”
Jess: Of course not. I know you.
Brie: Good. I mean. I don’t know how I would handle it if you didn’t believe me.
Jess: Why wouldn’t I believe you? Is there something you’re not telling me?
Brie: No not at all.
Jess: Are you sure?
Brie: Yes I’m sure. What the fuck kind of question is that?
Jess: I don’t know. I mean. There are obvious reasons for them doing this. Maybe they just want to rescind on the deal, in which case I’m going to need to know EVERYTHING in case they try something.
Brie: I…I told you everything.
Jess: Well I sure as shit hope so. Because let’s face facts. You are a big girl as you like to say. You could easily overpower her. So anyone on the outside-looking-in is going to be looking at that.
Brie slammed her hand against the dash board as hard as she could, hitting the a/c vent actually cracking it and forcing it inside the vent. “Goddamn it, Jess”. Tears began to roll down her face as she turned to face Jess. “I could never rape anyone.” Jess became silent. "The subject certainly seems very close to you."
Brie: Let's change the subject.
Jess: What happened, Brie?
Brie: I don't want to talk about it.
Jess: Hey, I'm your sister. You can tell me anything.
Brie: Not this.
Jess: Brie, Please...
Brie: Not now Jess. Maybe someday, but not today.
Jess: Promise you'll tell me.
Brie: When I am ready to tell anyone, it will be you.
Jess: That's all I ask.
As they arrived back at the hotel, the sun had begun to rise giving light to the strip. The girls got out and hugged each other, giving each other assurance that they had one another in any situation. They headed up to their room after a very hearty breakfast one of the hotel restaurants. “I’m beat. I think I’m going to the room. Grab a nap and pack what I can for tomorrow’s flight.” Jess said. “Man sis. You have like no energy, do you?” Brie retorted. “I do when I can actually sleep at night” Jess said with a sarcastic tone and face to match.
Brie: fine. I’m going to hang around here and do a little gambling. At least until the “O” starts up.
Jess: That’s cool. Don’t lose too much money
Brie: No worries there. I only brought a certain amount and that’s what I’m gambling with. If I bring home more, great. But I’m not going home with any less.
Jess: Good for you. I can see why Dad put you in charge of the business instead of me.
Brie: Oh please Jess. He put me in charge because he knows you don’t want to be tied down to that place.
Jess: I thought it was because I blew all that money
Brie: Well that was definitely a bad move. But you’re paying it off.
Brie got up from her chair and took care of the bill. “I’ll see you later. We’ll meet for dinner and get some drinks.” Jess stood up and gave Brie a goodbye hug. “I’d like that”. The pair parted ways. Jess headed to their room ready for rest. When she arrived, however, Frank was posted outside the door.
Frank: Where were you? I’ve been knocking for an hour.
Jess: Long fucking story. I went with Brie on her workout with Eva.
Frank: Did you collect any more Intel?
Jess: Yeah. I may have been wrong about Eva.
Frank: How so?
Jess: I mean her aura may definitely have a gamma tint. She dropped a pretty heavy weight on her chest and couldn’t get it off.
Frank: She could have been faking.
Jess: Maybe. But it took Her, Brie and I to lift if off of her.
Frank: Even you?
Jess: well I didn’t want everyone to know about my strength. But check this out. I could barely lift a 10 lb dumbbell.
Frank: Hmm. Interesting. Perhaps your powers are fading.
Jess grabbed Frank by the belt with her index finger easily lifting him up. Frank balanced himself with his hand on the ceiling until Jess put him back down in case any passersby were to see. “Nope.” Frank scratched his chin. “That warrants some looking into”
Jess: I thought you knew everything about my powers?
Frank: Not everything. I mean try to remember that you were given the first undiluted solution. In fact most of what we know is speculation. Still, I’m not completely satisfied with the Eva Brawn case. I want to know more.
Jess: Yeah well good luck. Akiko accused Brie of raping her and Eva didn’t take to kindly to it.
Frank: hmm…
Jess: That’s all you have to say. And what the hell does that even mean anyway.
Frank. It means that I think she may know about you and possibly the whole operation. You’ve been compromised.
Jess: So?
Frank: So it’s over. Don’t you get it? This could start an international incident with us looking like a bunch of assholes.
Jess: Shouldn’t be too hard for you.
Frank: This is serious. You’re done. Pack your shit. You’re on the next flight home.
Jess: Fuck that. What am I going to tell Brie?
Frank: Whatever you like. That’s not my problem.
Jess: That’s gratitude for you. I come here as a favor to you guys.
Frank: you came here because you were afraid that we would spill your secrets to your friends and family or possibly perform experiments on you.
Jess: That’s not the point. You could at least let us stay the night in Vegas. We’re out in the morning anyway.
Frank scowled for a minute and then re-thought his decision. “Fine, but tomorrow morning you’re out. And don’t make any contact with Eva or Akiko.” Jess opened her room door and began to close it. “No problem there. I can’t stand either one of them for what they did to Brie.” Before closing the door Frank gave Jess a small package of earrings. “Here, we stay in constant communication until your flight. They produce a low enough vibration that only you can hear what’s being said, but are sensitive enough so that when you talk normally, I can hear you.” Jess took them. “Thanks warden. And here I thought you were getting sentimental on me.” Frank grabbed the door handle, “Not on a mission” and closed it.
Meanwhile, back at Eva’s house, Eva and Akiko are in the garage changing the oil in Eva’s favorite car. A vintage 1969 corvette stingray held aloft with only Eva’s lone arm for support. Her bicep showed no strain or even sign of use as Eva used her other hand to hold the oil pan to catch the old oil. “After we finish this you can go see your father until I get back from the convention.” Eva said after kneeling down and placing the oil pan on the floor and picked up the drain plug. The car not phased in the least. “REALLY?! You mean it?” an excited Akiko said as she finished checking off “oil change” on the list of chores. “Sure I mean it. You were excellent in the shower with Brie.” Akiko turned around so that Eva didn’t see her scowl. “Did we really have to do the whole rape thing? I mean there must have been another way.”
Eva rested the car back down on the floor and began to apply the new oil. “Yes it was absolutely necessary. We need to get Jess here alone tonight. Besides, they feel that I can be fucked with and that does not sit well. This will teach them a lesson.” Akiko wiped her hands clean and was dismissed by Eva. After seeing Eva off to the “O”, she showered up and headed down to the basement to visit with her father. As she entered the basement she found the familiar completely encased plexi-glass cage encircling a hospital bed with a dying man in it. He was hooked up to a respirator in a coma.
Akiko took her usual seat and began reading aloud from a book, “The Diary of Anne Frank”, occasionally glancing over to look at her father. She put the book down and walked toward him and began caressing his forehead. Since his “accident”, Akiko had taken care of her father. Making sure all the machines working tirelessly to keep him alive were well taken care of, as well as her Father’s appearance was tended to. Akiko laid her head on his chest and began to cry softly as she did with most of her visits. When her visitation time had ended, Akiko prepared for the rest of her evening, which did nothing to improve her mood. “God Forgive me for my actions. But it is for a greater good” she said to no one in particular as she left her father alone in darkness, save for one shining light over his encased ‘bedroom’
Later that day, Jess and Brie were finishing their dinner and were about to head to the bar. Jess stopped dead in her tracks and held Brie’s hand so that she would go no further.
Brie: Ouch! What the hell?
Jess: Let’s go to another bar.
Brie: Why?
Jess: Because Eva is over there and I don’t want you causing a scene.
Brie: Believe me. There won’t be a scene. I don’t want to even look at her.
Brie turned to walk away and Jess followed. “Hey. You go on outside. I have to go to the ladies room.” Jess said and began to turn around. “You want me to go with you?” Jess shot Brie an odd look. “No I can handle it on my own thanks.” Brie smiled. “Okay there, Miss Adult. Sorry for the intrusion” Brie replied as she walked toward the exit.
Jess approached Miss Eva Brawn with a mixture of subtle hostility and professionalism she was not used to using but still came across as intended.
Jess: Look. If you didn’t want to go through with this deal, you could have just backed out. You didn’t have to go through this elaborate scenario.
Eva: I understand how you feel.
Jess: Do you? That’s my sister you hurt earlier.
Eva: Hey! Akiko is my friend. When I hear allegations of rape, what the hell am I supposed to do?
Jess: I don’t know. Listen to both sides of the story before you go off half-cocked?
Eva: You’re right. I apologize. And backing out of this deal is far from my intentions. My victory tonight sealed my history into the Miss “O”. Tomorrow I’m going to officially retire and hopefully endorse your product line. But I do have some private matters that I think we both need to discuss.
Jess: Such as?
Eva: Well, how much did Brie tell you of what happened before?
Jess: She said you guys fooled around and then Akiko came in and started to do her Jodie Foster impersonation.
Eva: well that is true. Over the last couple of days I have developed some feelings for your sister. But I don’t know how to smooth all this over so that we can have a fresh start. How can that happen?
Jess: What makes you think that I have the slightest interest in helping you get with my sister?
Eva: I would owe you big time.
Jess: Fine. Where?
Eva: My place. It’s private out there. It wouldn’t take more than an hour. And then you and your sister can enjoy the rest of your stay in Vegas.
Jess: She’s waiting for me.
Just then, the ear ring in Jess’ ear squawked up and began to speak into her ear. “Go with her. I’ll deal with Brie.” Jess leaned forward a bit and spoke back. “What? You said I was off this operation?” There was no other reply. “Hello…? Helloooo…?” Eva looked at Jess a little strangely. “Is everything okay over there?” Eva said. Jess looking a bit embarrassed. “Yeah, I’m good.”
Eva and Jess headed to the exit as Jess got a text message from Brie.
“With frank. Ttys. L8ter.”
The short ride to Eva’s house was filled with silence. As they entered the domicile, Eva spoke up. “We’ll talk down in the basement. I keep all my good booze down there.” Jess agreed and followed her down the dark steps.
Eva: you know I never got to thank you from earlier. You know, for your help with the weight.
Jess: Oh that was nothing. It was you and Brie doing all the work.
Eva: Not really. You were the one that took it off of me. You’re a lot stronger than you look.
The two got down to the basement and the lights came fully on. Jess saw the encircled bed with Akiko’s father and the surrounding equipment. Looking shocked, Jess’ mouth was agape. “What the fuck?” Eva turned around quickly grabbing Jess by the throat and easily lifting her over head. Squeezing ever so slightly on Jess throat, Jess began coughing a bit for air.
“Me too.” Eva said with an evil grin.
