Brian and Kelly – An Alternate Story: Pt. 1

(Author's Note: This story is NOT in the same continuity or time-line as Brian and Kelly. It is a completely alternate story featuring the same characters and universe commissioned by Urza2. Think of them as two different stories with the same characters and an alternate turn of events.)
Central High School's brand new Olympic standard gymnasium was finally opening. A multimillion dollar project, the gym featured brand new top of the line facilities. Of particular interest to Brian was the debut of a new weight room. Stocked to the brim with machines and free weights of every kind imaginable, it was fully furnished to service novice and professional weight lifters alike. Standing at a below average 5' 6” and sporting a rather thin frame, Brian was more than eager to get into the gym and start pumping iron. He dreamed of flexing up powerfully built muscles and impressing hordes of girls. Well, maybe not hordes, he particularly wanted to impress his best friend, Kelly.
Not wanting to waste any time at all, Brian visited the newly minted weight room after school the day it opened. To his surprise and relief, the place was practically empty. This was especially appealing since Brian was brand new to weight lifting and didn't want to look too weak or out of place. Brian had watched some videos on the internet before coming, and there were instructional posters on the walls, so he had a pretty good idea of what to do. He started off with bicep curling and tricep extending 20 pound dumbbells for reps, bench pressing 125 lbs, and squatting 150 lbs. Nothing special, but not too bad considering his small stature and complete lack of experience. He also threw in 30 push ups afterwards to round his workout off and called it a day.
The next day Brian felt fantastic and full of energy, possibly already stronger than the previous day. He knew that this was way too soon to already start getting results, but with the way he felt anything was possible. Brian eagerly told Kelly about his gym adventure and invited her to join him. He figured that he'd continue growing stronger right before her eyes, becoming a god, and she'd possibly tone up a bit and get even sexier herself. Kelly's eyes lit up at the idea of getting stronger and agreed to join him.
While Brian coasted through his workout, performing more repetitions at each weight than the previous day, Kelly struggled immensely. Even simply curling the 10 pound dumbbells were difficult for her, causing her entire arm to shake with effort. Kelly barely managed to squat and bench the 60 and 50 pound bars for each exercise. Brian easily pounded out 40 push ups after his workout. Kelly tried to do the same, but fell flat on her face after a couple.
Just like the previous day, Brian felt stronger than ever and on top of the world. Kelly on the other hand felt completely sore all over and could barely move. She told him he'd have to visit the gym alone the next couple days. He teased her a bit in response, but told her it'd be no problem.
After a few days had passed, Kelly finally felt rejuvenated enough to venture into the gym again. As she met up with him, she couldn't help but notice his shirt was distinctly tight. In fact, he even seemed a smidgin taller. Whether that was due to better posture or growth, she wasn't sure. Kelly grabbed the 10 pound weights and started curling them. She definitely had an easier time than last, but she was nowhere near ready to move up to the 15s. As she started her second set, Brian waltzed over and grabbed the 30 pound dumbbells. Kelly's eyes bugged out of her head a bit – he already moved up 10 pounds in weight? Brian effortlessly curled the weights, causing a distinct bicep to pop out. After about a dozen easy curls, Brian put the weights down and smirked. “Oh, silly me, I grabbed the light weight.” he said, picking up the 35 lb dumbbells and repeating the motion. “Can't wait to start lifting some real weight soon...” he said with a smirk as he made his way over to the bench press to crank out 200 pound repetitions. Kelly was devastated. How was he getting this strong this quickly? It just wasn't fair. She pushed herself extra hard to try to close the strength gap a bit.
Unfortunately for Kelly, pushing herself extra hard backfired. Instead of waking up the next day with powerful new muscles, she woke up even more sore than the last time she worked out. In fact, she was so sore she had to stay home since the mere act of getting up was too painful. It would be an entire two weeks before she was ready to enter the gym again. Two whole weeks during which Brian's strength continued to skyrocket along with his ego.
As Kelly walked in she saw Brian already at it with the weights. Realizing she was there, he put down his bench press – 325 pounds, a school record. Kelly's jaw literally dropped upon seeing him. He definitely had a growth spurt, he was easily 5'10”, and his muscles were huge.
“Ready to work out?” Brian asked with a grin.
“Uhh, yeah.” Kelly sheepishly responded, making her way over to the dumbbells. Having been out of the gym for so long, she had lost whatever progress her last workout granted her, causing her to revert to the 10 lb dumbbells. She picked them up and slowly curled them.
“Check it out!” Brian said grabbing a pair of 50's and easily curling them. “I'm 5 times stronger than you now!” he bragged. After a few reps, he dropped the weights causing a massive crash and startling Kelly. “Ah, who am I kidding?” he said, picking up a pair of 60's and started to curl them with a regular amount of difficulty. “I'm SIX times stronger than you now! And soon, I'll be SEVEN times stronger... and eventually TEN, maybe even more!” he exclaimed laughing heartily.
After finishing his bicep workout he put the weights down and flexed his large 17 inch biceps. “Go on Kelly, feel these things. Wrap your hands around one. Just try to dent me, I'm harder than steel!”
Kelly reluctantly obliged, put her hands around his right arm and tried to budge it. Despite her best efforts, after pushing down for a solid 10 seconds she made no leeway. Brian continued laughing and mocking her, going on about how great it is to be a man who grows stronger and stronger. Lauding about how he'd hate to be a weak girl. Kelly stormed out and went home immediately, both furious and downtrodden.
As she left the gym, Kelly barged right out the doors and started walking home. Even though she was upset, she felt... strangely good. Energetic even. Flowing with energy. She started running home, eventually full on sprinting before reaching her destination. Even after that she didn't feel tired. Filled with a renewed sense of vigor, Kelly started doing sets of push ups. Although she could only complete a few repetitions each time, she felt compelled to keep doing them. She vowed that despite how easy it was for Brian, she'd continue pushing herself and eventually get to his level... or even surpass him.
Right after Kelly left, something felt off for Brian. He felt... lethargic. All of his energy and bravado had simply vanished. He couldn't bring himself to work out anymore and headed home early. Unsure of what happened, he simply chalked it up to feeling guilty for making Kelly upset, took the bus home, and went to bed early.
If only things were that simple for Brian, if only.
